È stato responsabile di Premiere e redattore capo di American Film. È autore di Seeing is Believing: How Hollywood Taught Us to Stop Worrying and Love the Fifties e di The Godfather Companion. Ha scritto, inoltre, Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film e Gods and Monsters: Movers, Shakers, and Other Casualties of the Hollywood Machine.
